Full Manuscripts:
If a full manuscript is requested, please send them in the following format:
12-point font, 8.5 x 11 size, single spaced, with standard indent of the first paragraph, unless it is an experimental fiction work that includes non-standard text.
Publishing Process:
- A form will be sent to the author for the book’s metadata (title, contributors, short and long description, keywords), as well as a contract.
- The accepted manuscript is given an initial review by the editor for proofreading, and reviewing the layout.
- The printer requires that all color illustrations be saved with the CYMK color mode, and have a resolution of least 300 dpi. A 6” x 9” book needs to be output as a PDF that is 12” x 15”.
- Ebooks need to be submitted in non-enhanced EPUB3 format. The editor will make sure the final manuscript meets this criteria, and will have the author review before submission.
- Covers for printed books need to be created using Ingram’s PDF template. The author can choose to create their own cover, or one will be created for them. A cover image, back cover description, author bio, and thumbnail author photo are required for covers in either case. Ebook covers only require a cover image in JPG format.
- The default binding will be paperback, with black-and-white text, and 50-lb. grade paper, with glued bindings. I work as a POD shop (print-on-demand), as this is more cost and space efficient than keeping a warehouse of books. If an author wants a hardcover book, that would need to be discussed separately.
- Pricing for books will vary depending on the complexity of production; usually it is the cost of production per title plus $10 for print books; ebook pricing is flexible.
- Once Ingram is satisfied that the interior and cover files meet their standards, a proof will be sent to the editor, which will also be sent to the author for final approval and review. Please note that any file reloads or major corrections after the proof has been set incur a cost that will be taken out of royalty earnings; make sure that you are happy with the file before it is submitted to avoid this.
- The publisher will communicate with the author about any marketing done on their behalf, and payment will be made in accordance with terms in the contract.
Formats and Payment
Books are usually published in both print and ebook formats, and are distributed via IngramSpark. Payments will be made once a year, unless a book sells over 100 copies within a shorter time period, in which case payments will be issued twice a year, in June and December. Authors receive royalties of 10% per copy on print books after the first 5 copies are sold (industry standard is 7.5%), and 25% on ebook receipts (same as industry standard).
Marketing:
The publisher will provide marketing via distributor listings, social media, book review journal ads, and book expositions/conventions when possible. However, authors will be free to market their works in whatever forums they choose, and are encouraged to do so due to limited marketing funds.
